Neurodivergence & Ethics: Justice Sensitivity, Morality, and Values

Many neurodivergent people experience ethics and morality with unusual intensity and clarity. This course explores how traits such as justice sensitivity, pattern recognition, black-and-white thinking, and deep empathy can shape a neurodivergent person’s ethical framework. We’ll discuss why some neurodivergent individuals feel strongly about fairness, rules, harm reduction, and social responsibility—and why ethical violations can feel especially distressing. The course also explores how these differences can lead to both strengths (integrity, principled thinking, advocacy) and challenges (moral burnout, conflict with others, or difficulty navigating gray areas). Through a neuro-affirming lens, this course helps neurodivergent individuals better understand their relationship with ethics, values, and moral reasoning, while offering tools for navigating a world that often operates with very different moral priorities.
